GENDER EQUALITY (VIII)

GENDER EQUALITY (VIII)

GENDER EQUALITY (VIII)
Man-Superior, Women-Inferior Thinking, Not Acceptable Anymore.
This thinking is archaic and against present-day laws and conventions.
According to the constitutions of most countries and all UN Conventions, Men and Women are equal.
This means that the inequalities endorsed by many religious leaders, and practiced in many families and organisations, are actually illegal.

Today, a husband (a free citizen of a country) cannot own his wife (also a free citizen of a country).
It follows that fathers should not be ‘gifting’ away their daughters or giving away the brides because all daughters are adults and full citizens with equal rights like their fathers. Daughters cannot be gifts to be given away by one man to another man. This was possible in earlier times because women and slaves were not citizens –only their masters and propertied men were citizens and only they qualified to vote.

Today, our laws have changed for good but our patriarchal class, caste, race and colonial ideologies, practices and systems persists. Anyone, man or woman, who believes in equality and respects the constitution of their respective countries and the UN Conventions, should join hands and fight against male domination and the notion of hegemonic masculinity prevalent in the society today.

Men of Quality are Not Afraid of Equality!
